Ever wondered how a research project gets translated into the real world? Come dialogue with Ali Jafari, PhD, and discover how Angel and Epsilen went from concept to commercial. Dr. Jafari, Professor of Computer and Information Technology in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, focuses his research on smart learning environments and intelligent agents both from conceptual and technical perspectives. The Epsilen Environment (www.epsilen.com) places social networking and ePortfolios at the center of global teaching and learning, creating a new environment for the next generation of learners and professionals. Epsilen goes beyond other popular networking sites, connecting peers and enabling meaningful knowledge and object exchanges. The New York Times has joined with Dr. Jafari to commercialize Epsilen Environment. Another of Jafari’s research projects, ANGEL (www.angellearning.com), is an outgrowth of OnCourse, a system that supports teaching and learning, committees, projects, research, and portfolios. ANGEL is one the most used eLearning tools in the country with its headquarters located in Indianapolis.
