Social media as a predictor of SUDEP
|
|
TRIP Scholar, Associate Dean Wendy Miller, is part of an international team of researchers from Indiana University, Binghamton University, and Portgual’s Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, that explored using social media to detect behaviors that could precede sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), the leading cause of death in people with uncontrolled epileptic seizures. Their findings, recently published in the journal "Epilepsy & Behavior", reveal that the activity of epilepsy patients in social media increased before their sudden deaths. These changes in digital behavior could be used as early warning signals to put preventive interventions for SUDEP into practice.

TRIP Scholars Receive Additional Grant Funding
|
|
Congratulations to Professor Victoria Garcia Wilburn and Dr. Devon Hensel, 2021 Bantz Community Scholar Awardees, on receiving the 2022 American Occupational Therapy Foundation Intervention Grant that will extend their current work with the Hope Academy High School. Their project, “Understanding Cravings and Triggers in Adolescents Attending a Recovery High School in a COVID-19 Era,” is a partnership with Hope Academy Recovery High School (Hope Academy). The research will allow them and Hope Academy the opportunity to better understand adolescents’ daily lived experiences, improve client-centered care, and capture the real-life barriers in substance-use disorder.

IU School of Medicine Provides Laptops to Med Students
|
|
First-year medical students joining Indiana University School of Medicine in the fall of 2022 will be provided with new laptops for the duration of their training program, thanks to funding from the United States Health Resources and Services Administration Medical Student Education Program.

Pre-Pandemic Graduation Ceremonies Will Resume
|
|
COVID-19 conditions have improved enough that commencement ceremonies at IU Bloomington and IUPUI, as well as the regional campuses, will happen just like they did before the pandemic. The events are all in-person. Families and friends are welcome, masks are optional and student milestones will be celebrated.
