Development and Testing of an Implementation Strategy for the Housing First Model
The Housing First Model (HFM) is an approach to housing individuals experiencing chronic homelessness that has been demonstrated to lead to improved health outcomes, but has proven difficult to implement in many instances due to its complexity.
Dennis Watson’s project seeks to develop and test a strategy that will improve implementation and reach of the HFM through three stages: 1) adapt a currently existing HFM implementation strategy so that it may be delivered over a distance, thus requiring less time and resources for organizations to use; 2) develop an instrument to measure structural-level factors affecting HFM implementation; and 3) conduct a pilot study to assess the feasibility for a larger study that will test the effectiveness of the implementation strategy. This project will increase the limited scientific knowledge regarding implementation strategies for evidence-based practices in housing and other areas.
Dr. Watson’s work to improve implementation and reach of the Housing First Model is another example of how IUPUI’s faculty members are TRANSLATING their RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE.
