The 2023 TRIP Awards and Fall Showcase, hosted at the IUPUI Campus Center on October 11, 2023 from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Eastern), had 70+ attendees (in-person and online). Brief welcome remarks were provided by IUPUI Interim Chancellor Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch, IUPUI Chancellor Emeritus Charles R. Bantz, and Associate Director of the IUPUI Center for TRIP, Stephan Viehweg. Then, Dr. Richard Brandon-Friedman, the 2022 Bantz Community Scholar Award recipient, presented Dr. Sophia Wang and Dr. Veronica Derricks with the 2023 Bantz Community Scholar Award. Professor Lahny Silva, the 2022 Bantz Community Fellowship recipient, presented Dr. Elizabeth Kryder-Reid and Dr. Laura Holzman with the 2023 Bantz Community Fellowship. Dr. Todd Skaar, the 2022 Bantz-Petronio TRIP Award recipient, presented Dr. Holly Cusack-McVeigh with the 2023 Bantz-Petronio TRIP Award. Then Dr. Cusack-McVeigh gave a feature presentation about her research entitled "A POISONED PAST AND CONTAMINATED PRESENT: Challenges for Indigenous Communities Bringing their Cultural Heritage Home." The Bantz Community Awards were artistically crafted by Christina Hollering, a faculty member at the Herron School of Art + Design and Patrick Bennett, a graduate of the Herron School of Art + Design Grad Program. Teresa Bennett, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement, shared how people can continue to support the Bantz Awardees, TRIP Scholars, and the TRIP Center.
Before and after the award ceremony, event attendees talked with other TRIP Faculty Scholars about their research and the meaningful impact that it has in local and distant communities.
